Case study
ServiceTrade: self-service integrations and the partner ecosystem
I led the expansion of ServiceTrade's accounting integration capabilities, created the partner program and marketplace, and owned API management across ServiceTrade and SalesManager. My responsibilities combined product leadership with hands-on design and development, including the production developer portal.
Client-managed accounting configuration
Accounting integration setup and subsequent changes had depended on development and implementation work. Routine mapping changes competed for engineering capacity and left clients waiting to adapt their integrations to new accounting requirements.
I led the rollout and expansion of a configurable accounting integration layer that replaced developer-dependent mapping changes with client-managed configuration. Clients could define fields, dimensions, filters, transformations, and rollups directly within ServiceTrade, reducing implementation effort and allowing their integrations to evolve with their accounting requirements.
The interface included a catalog of valid GL dimensions and codes, with search, upload, and export capabilities. Clients could maintain their configuration as their chart of accounts and reporting needs changed.
A formal partner program and marketplace
I created and managed the partner program, establishing a review and approval process for companies seeking to access ServiceTrade data or connect external systems.
We interviewed prospective partners to understand their proposed data use, assess how the integration supported our offering, and establish its value to clients. Approved partners received official API keys, and their integrations could be offered within the application.
I created the partner marketplace to give clients a clear view of approved companies and the capabilities their integrations provided. The program connected partner evaluation, API access, and client discovery through a defined process.
Developer experience, personally designed and built
I personally designed and developed the ServiceTrade developer portal, bringing API documentation, getting-started guidance, SDK resources, and the partner-program entry path into a single resource.
The portal covered both ServiceTrade and SalesManager. It gave developers a documented path from understanding the APIs to applying for partner access, supporting the program I had established.
Accounting integration ownership and expansion
I owned the Sage Intacct integration and expanded its functionality to address product gaps and support a broader range of client requirements.
I fully designed the Microsoft Dynamics 365 integration, defining how ServiceTrade would connect with clients' accounting systems and support their financial configuration requirements.
API ownership across ServiceTrade and SalesManager
I owned API responsibilities across both products, including support, documentation, and direct engagement with partners whose usage exceeded thresholds.
I rolled out a Tyk API gateway and monitoring system to provide visibility into API consumption and identify usage that required attention. This gave us the information needed to manage partner usage directly and support the integration program.
